MIGORI HOSTs FIRST EVER
HEDEX BODA BODA RALLY

COMPETITIVE CYCLING FEVER

Coastweek - -  After a two week Easter break, the ongoing Hedex Boda Boda rally action resumes this weekend as the fifth round gets underway in Migori town.

Amateur cyclists in the town are already gearing up for the debut event in Migori town and have selected a 100man team for the event this Saturday.

The staging of the fifth round in Migori town is generating excitement in the town given that this will be the first time ever that a competitive amateur cycling event will have been staged there.

Speaking on phone from Migori town, the Hedex Boda Boda Race organizer Chris Shiundu confirmed that Migori town boda boda operators had settled on the 100 man strong team ahead of the event.

The team, Shiundu explained, had been competitively selected ahead of the Saturday race.

 "After the route review visit and meeting with the local association officials, I am impressed at their level of seriousness and excitement in hosting the first ever Hedex Boda Boda championship," Shiundu said.

The 100km race will have the competitors all featuring in standard production black mamba bicycles competing through the sugar fields of Mumias and Kakamega.

Following the staging of the last four rounds, the event sponsors GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) have expressed their satisfaction with the growing popularity of the event.

GlaxoSmithkline's Marketing Manager Dr. Githinji Gitahi expressed the firm's commitment to support such grassroot sporting activities to aid national development.

"At GSK, we are extremely pleased with the turnout and interest that the Hedex Boda Boda championship has generated," Dr. Gitahi said. 

And added: "we shall continue extending our support to such events as part of our commitment to aid national development by encouraging sports diversification."

From Migori, the Hedex Boda Boda action moves on to Bungoma for the staging of the sixth round set for May 6th.

The seventh round is set for Kitale on May 20th and will be followed by the Nairobi round on May 27th which will culminate with the Hedex Boda Boda finals in Mumias on June 3rd.

This years nine round Hedex Boda Boda rally series sponsored by GSK, the manufacturers of Hedex and Hedex Extra, has been organized as part of a strategic initiative by the healthcare firm to develop grass root sports and to encourage and support Boda Boda entrepreneurs.
